Well the materials depends on whatever you have in your house (tape, rope, belts, etc...).

In that case, use ropes that are comfortable for your girlfriend (nylon for example). Make sure you tie knots which you can easily and quickly untie, make sure her blood curculation isn't cut off by the ropes.
Agree on a verbal and non-verbal safeword. For verbal, preferbadly use a easily to say and understandable safeword like "Red". For the onverbal safwword, use something like her flicking her fingers.

I agree with Jana there. Try to be simple I think, like a hand and foot tie or a chair tie. Rope and scarves are a good way to go as far as material. I'd say scarves are a tad better since I find they're easier to escape from if she needs to, but can still be secure as long as she's enjoying it and doesn't quite want to escape yet
