La Plaine Incident 1999 ( MM/M )
La Plaine Incident 1999 ( MM/M )
Ok, this one is not really a written story - at least not written by me - but it is real because it came to me as an article in the "Journal de Montreal " - or JDM, for the locals - in some petty crimes and local news section... I did a composed drawing and combined it with the article. So it's half "TUG art" half true story... If mods consider it should go into the "art" section, I'll be happy to oblige EDIT: sorry for first readers, I initialy wrote " "rat" section"...
A little bit of context:
I'm in the second year of my architectural studies in Lyon- so was 21, 22 in march - and we have an exchange program with UQUAM, I jump on the occasion and spend 10 months there, between late summer of '98 and early summer of '99... This "incident" must have taken place around April or May . Not sure of that at all, was my worst "auto-pilot mode" year and I was quite far gone myself, although it's not related at all with the incident.
Anyway, here's the article AND it's integral home-made translation from heroic Quebec french to the vile masters' english ( just kiddin' I love writing in english, just be cool with typos or strange spelling... ) so both audiences can enjoy it...
And for those of us who live in a rational word where measuring units come in multiples of ten, "first suspect" is 1.80 m for 70 kilos, "second suspect" is 1.70 m and weights 60 kg. ( both quite light, me likes ):

And now what it inspired me:

You'll agree with me it's not that traumatic, plus it's same age on same age, so...
I have to confess that I have some doubts about this really happening ( maybe it's those strangely attractive "thugs" ) but we all know stupider crimes get commited everyday so why not ?
On a personal note, there's everything I like in it: home invasion ( how more symbolic can you get, I do think most home invaders do it for the thrill rather than for money, at least in that precise case you'll agree the outcome isn't worth a few years behind bars ) , a good boyfight and rough tying with whatever they found on site. All that's missing is a gag. Either they gagged him but he felt somehow humiliated and didn't report - or journalist did a reporting job as bad as his writing style, it's poor isn't it ? - or they threatened him enough so he kept it shut...
What's more to say ?
Original article provided the street name, so I checked it on Google Earth and Streetview and so the house on top is the real house. In a typical canadian environmental psychology analysis - learned that there and liked it a lot, E.C. Hall and all ... ) you could say that house has "rob me " written on it: it's on a corner lot but whith three heavily planted sides AND it faces only threes...
I had great fun trying to picture the two invaders from the "portrait robot" - no idea how you call that - and bringing back to life my beloved 90s look: Fila sneaks, oversize everything, messy hair... Having no idea what that kid looked like I went for my usual trick: drawing myself younger and with a straight nose and wider eyes. Also made him blonde - not that many in Quebec I recall - to contrast more with his attackers... Which is also one of my visual tricks: adding splashing colors to enlighten a bit some "dark" subjects.
And it's all hand drawn with 6B crayons, then scaned, assembeld and colorized on Photoshop.
Whatever you think of it, feel free to tell me. I love feedback and happily answer to everyone.

Love the simultaneous, (almost cubist) representation of the action.
They all say boxer shorts are cool,
but little Speedos always rule.
but little Speedos always rule.
Endless combinations Frustrating thing is so much of each original drawing that make the final pic is lost in superposition... The little guy freeing himself was drawn all the way to his feet, with loops of cable artfully playing around. That's my latest inovation : "release depictions" It's a positive way to balance my darker sides and I'll try to convert you guys to the beauty of it...
Will include them in the scraps folder on DA but will leave the main pic here, could draw visitors in. Can't thank you enough for this site.

Perhaps you should provide a link to the "Scraps" folder?

Like what you've done! Always have been a fan of your artwok and I like this composition with the different moments of the story in a single frame.
As for the article, I don't see anything particularly wrong, it's not explicitly traumatic and I do agree a gag was also needed (besides, I'm a sucker for robbery/home invasion scenarios were the victims end tied up!)
As a suggestion for the future, maybe you could use the article as a basis for a fictional story (like "based on real" events kind of thing), it would make the whole work more personal (and you could even correct the fact that the victim wasn't gagged). It's just a suggestion though since I'm perfectly happy with what you have done here!

Thanks for sharing this art work with us, my friend.
And before someone accuses me, NO, I wasnt one of the robbers If I was, that kid wouldve been bound up and gagged quite a bit better. Haha!
We still gets a lot of students through the Université du Québec à Montréal programs. Glad to see you were one of them!
And you're right about blond being a rarer hair colour here. Almost everyone has brown or châtain/dirty blond hair with brown eyes.
Hope you were able to have a bit of fun during your short stay here.

Another excellent piece of artwork and an interesting basis for a post. I have rapidly become a huge fan of your work.
Thanks! I could have made 10 pages with that one, almost a founding moment for me First time one of my fantasies found some kind of echo in real life... I'm working on a longer story with more intricated images and text.cj2125 wrote: ↑6 years ago Like what you've done! Will be quite personal...
About the light "trauma" thing, it's exactly why I felt like posting something based on that in the "for everyone" section. I do stronger pieces based on imagination but wouldn't "use" real hard stuff.

Knew you'd like it And glad to know you can relate to that particularily well 'cause you know those endless streets ending on rather flat landscape... I'm a suburban verging on country boy too, all those private little worlds with empty spaces to prowl in betweenbondagefreak wrote: ↑6 years ago Thanks for sharing this art work with us, my friend.

Really enjoyed my stay there, real friendly country with easy people, went back a short time two years later, could come back soon. Had a crush on a nice guy there but wasn't ready yet, was still overwhelmed by my fantasies then. But actually feeling for that guy helped me realise a thing or two and everyone who knows me agree I came back "better".
And, LoL, I'll call detective Brian Ford to tell him you were not involved... He must have made captain or something since then

Thought so too, plus basic but factual words make it easy to picture, both mentaly and literaly... But I still think the two mugshots drawings sold it to me. The one on the left has an intense stare if you look at it closely, artist was good
And thanks for nice comment(s).

La Plaine has changed A LOT in the last two decades though. Ever since it was swallowed up by the much larger city of Terrebonne, it's been turned into a condo town.LK3869 wrote: Knew you'd like it And glad to know you can relate to that particularily well 'cause you know those endless streets ending on rather flat landscape..

Glad you enjoyed our friendly country even though we're STILL not a country yet
bondagefreak wrote: ↑6 years agoCountries are overated anyway; not sure you miss anything really important as long as you're allowed to preserve what makes you special in North America. To be honest, I went the easy way choosing a french speaking spot for my exchange program but I'm sure now i would have felt lonely in Toronto...LK3869 wrote: Glad you enjoyed our friendly country even though we're STILL not a country yet
I haven't read your stories yet - only started exploring - but i'm diving in it tomorrow to see what growing up there turned you into My suburbia was objectively more "scenic" ( forested hills and even a towering mountain ) but you see the results...

Last images I was talking about included. If you ever go wandering on other folders of that page, be warned there's mature stuff in the "awfull stuffs" section. Others pics appear with a mature content sign if you're not loged in, they're not so hard but I try not to be too careless since it's a PG site...
EDIT 03/27/18: I cleaned my DA page from the one deviation that was obviously porn, posted on an impulse to show I'd grown out of "naive" bondage fantasies but that was probably ill advised. Plus I try to comply with caution policy here that I'm perfectly OK with.
personal message to mods: never hesitate to notify me if I do something out of line , and the faster and the clearer the better.

Thanks for that. Seeing the constituent sketches is very instructive
