No. Empressement, as in; zeal, avidity, passion.
There is clearly an empressement on the part of some users to see you and the Admin team take preventative action against the nuisance that is our banners.

I stand by my every remark. It is, in fact, completely bewildering that the idea of preventing us from using signatures/banner is being floated around, especially considering it takes a handful of seconds for the plaintiff(s) to simply go to their own User Control Panels and make all signatures (and any other images they did not wish to see) invisible.

My comment about Dominik's few comments all being on story threads that feature a glaring absence of any banners is relevant.
None of the threads he's participated on and presumably read are swamped with banners. Hence my puzzlement at him joining this particular cause and encouraging the use of extreme measures against us.

I'd just like to add, I don't see a reason to abolish signatures when the option to simply disable your own view of them exists. I definitely think having a banner helps attract people's attention better than a written announcement could. TightropesEU, if they do bother you, you can always turn them off, my friend!

I don't think the call to "take action" is at all necessary, and I'd really hate for all these banners to go away. I find them fun to look at and see, and a refreshing surprise when they change to alert me to a new story. With my time being more and more occupied lately, I find banners a more viable way of looking into new stories when I'm doing a quick scan through the site than looking through the forum. I understand the ideas presented by TightropesEU and Dominik, but given that they and anyone else who finds them distracting can easily remove them from their display, I don't think taking any site-wide action to remove banners or signatures is worth doing.

bondagefreak Thank you for creating the banners for many of the folks on here. It's very kind of you to do that. By placing story banners in the signatures, it helps promote and encourage people to read and write stories. I have noticed more stories, likely because of the banners. Thank you for helping to keep TUGS going strong.

Sigh,

Okay, so I've read everyone's frustrations and each side of argument. As far as my opinion goes on the banners: they are needed. It's really difficult to authors to advertise their stories other ways on this forum due to the aging structure and design of this forum. Forums were never really designed around sharing of novel size stories, as they are more of a place for discussion of topics. Banners are, in my opinion, one of the best ways for authors to advertise and share their stories for others to see. For that reason, I do not support their removal from the board.

However, I do think some of them take up too much screen space. I think, going forward, I will agree with limiting them to no more than 300 pixels(ideally, 150 to 250 pixels should be the goal). This way they only take up a small segment of screen space and are not overly glaring and distracting.

I'm not a fan of huge signatures but was unaware of my ability to turn them off.
Problem solved! Thank you.

And that's completely fine. I hope the banner people can work on reducing their size, and it seems like they are willing to do so to make the forum overall more readable.

P.S. I noticed that, despite your 900 posts, you weren't being appropriately marked as "active." I fixed that for you.

I guess I am a tad biased since I use one of the banners graciously created by bondagefreak but I like the banners. I do agree with limiting the size as stated but there are several stories I have read BECAUSE of the banners. I don't find that they interfere with anything.
Thanks for reading. Feel free to comment.

I don't think there's much more to say on this topic, but:

I spent plenty of time on plenty of forums in the past, and still use some now (although they're less common nowadays). Having a limit on the size of banners was/is a very common rule. Many people find them annoying and a limited size is a fair compromise.

They can come off as excessively attention-grabbing (after all, you still have to see them even if it's not a story you're interested in reading, or if it's a story you've already read) and if our solution for people who don't like them is to turn off signatures entirely, that does somewhat disadvantage other users who wish to have some relevant information in their signature.

how come under 13s are allowed on the site? It says about how under 13s must have parental permission? Didn’t think they’d be allowed to make an account. Anyone able to answer?

Are you new on the internet? 'Cause there's no actual way of prohibiting anyone (no matter what age) from signing up on websites of their choice and accessing adult content. If you think websites have actual control over the age of those registering and browsing their content, then I'm afraid you've been very seriously misled.

The 13+ recommendation is a disclaimer stating that the content on this site may not be suitable for those younger than 13 years of age. Websites don't have a way of policing who signs up. Everyone knows that even adult porn sites can be accessed by anyone simply by checking a box stating that "I'm 18 years of age". A child's online activity should be monitored by his or her parent(s). That's what parents are for.

Hi gustorak
I presume she escapes. If so, not too violent in my opinion.

I see no reason why not as long as etiquette is observed.
If they are no longer on the site, I can see no problem.
If they are still here, please check with them first before hijacking their intellectual property.
I would advise an introductory reply saying that you are continuing the story and, perhaps giving a reason or acknowledgement of the originator's work.

Thanks, although it's not something I'd like to discuss publicly. Is e-mail OK?
