I know that a few of you are new to the board since we changed the privileges on private messages. This thread is intended to explain why you as a new user do not have access to private messages.

About a month ago, after hearing several complaints from the community and word that new users were leaving the site due to harassment, we decided to restrict access to private messages to only those users that have made their first 10 posts.

The primary purpose behind this is not to punish anyone neccessarily, but to protect our new members from waves of harassing RP requests while they get used to and familiar with the board. We want members to engage with the community publicly first by either participating in TUG talk discussions or, more importantly, write stories or provide feedback to ones that already exist.

I hope this explains the situation concerning private messages. Once you reach your 10 post goal, your PM privileges will automatically be granted by the system.

Hey, just a heads-up that this apparently applies to reading PMs as well. It's a little bit disconcerting to get a "Welcome!" PM and then not be able to read it!

e: Now that I can read them, I also think I got two copies of the welcome PM somehow! Again, just a heads-up.

I've now reached 10 posts and my PM privileges don't appear to have been automatically granted by the system yet

Update. I can now read the messages but when I try to send any it just goes to the outbox and doesn't actually send. Does it take a while to update on that end as well or should I just tag Mr Snow now?

[mention]AceRimmer103[/mention] the message has been send out. When the recipient opens and reads the message it goes to the send messages folder.

oh, i didnt know u have to had atleast 10 post for being able to PM, i did send some pms throw some months and now I know why i didnt got any reply XD

Social topics count I believe. Role Play/How Would topics do not, however.

I was having a clear out of old PMs and came across one from three years ago when we were.all new to this board.

In response to an unsolicited message:" Hey girl how about..............."

I had written the following reply which , even if I say so myself, is concise in words but extensive and in sensible in meaning.

"I'd probably kick you in the balls and tell you to go.and read my profile."

Do you have to make 10 posts or does leaving a comment or something work as well?

I have more than 10 posts why can't I use the pm? I was able to before

[mention]thesloth[/mention] It usually takes time to kick in once the member has made 10 qualifying posts. Posts made in the How Would and Role Play sections do not count
