Can a taped mouth prevent snoring?

I was innocently browsing TikTok earlier and a video popped up of a guy placing a strip of what seemed to be some kind of clear tape over his mouth. The caption and video text seemed to imply he was promoting this strip as an aid to combat snoring.
At first I thought it was a joke but after reading the comments and then curiously heading to Google it seems that there are in fact people out there who regularly tape their mouths shut before bed. Apparently some people swear by it as a prevention for snoring and some even suggested it made for a better night sleep overall!
I imagine it’s more common to use specialised tapes rather than your classics like duct tape but the whole idea of taping your mouth voluntarily definitely appealed to my TUG-inclined mind. I’ve personally had naps before with my mouth taped (no stuffing - obvious choking hazard) and had no issues, though I always wondered about the safety of sleeping overnight with a taped mouth.
Does anyone have any experience sleeping for long periods with their mouth taped or watched over a tape gagged captive? I love the idea - and as someone who snores it’d be interesting to see if it works.
Side note: I’m both impressed and concerned that the TikTok algorithm knows me well enough to show me a video of a guy essentially taping his mouth unprompted lol
