Hmmm... I do like this scenario! A captive who has already resigned themselves to the fact they are helpless in their bonds suddenly, so amazingly, is given a potential out. You can imagine how their heart leaps - it's nearly over! They struggle some more despite themselves, desperate to get the attention of a rescuer. And... the rescuer doesn't hear them and leaves. Utter helplessness washes over them again. They struggle in furious frustration some more, knowing it's hopeless.
A good example of this can be seen in the British TV show Happy Valley, series 1 episode 2. A young woman, Ann, who's father is a millionaire, has been kidnapped and tied up in a cellar by a nutter. A cop who is hot on his back (for different reasons) tracks him down to the abandoned house he's stashed his victim in and knocks on the door. Ann hears her and struggles mightily against her bonds, desperately trying to get the attention of whoever is at the door. Unfortunately, all she succeeds in doing is knocking the chair on the floor, and her ordeal continues on.
On the subject of Happy Valley, I highly recommend it as a show to watch - it's actually fantastic. However, a warning about the bondage scenes. Despite the above, they can be quite hard to watch and the whole thing is very dark.
So close to rescue scenarios!

In a similar vein one of my favorites is when someone attempts to rescue the captive and ends up getting captured themselves.
This conversation would go a lot smoother if you just gagged me already!

I love scenarios like this. Especially in the realm of sibling tie-ups where the captor-sibling gets *so close* to getting in trouble, but gets away with keeping their sibling tied up. Then they have one more thing to gloat about.
A similar scenario i enjoy is when someone is found by a would-be rescuer… but they decide to join in the fun instead. My favorite scenario would be being tied and gagged by my sister and my girlfriend comes over and finds me… but instead of releasing me she taunts me a little, then does a light torture like light tickling or pokes her feet in my face.
Also - love a 3rd party “secret” gag change. For example, my girlfriend tied and gagged me, then my sister discovers me and removes my gag, but only to shove her gym socks in my mouth and replaces the tape. Then my girlfriend returns, not knowing why im protesting into my gag so much!
