Hands, feet, and gag are the main things, although having my arms tied (to my chest) would also be one I add. Knees are a nice bonus, but not necessary. A blindfold is great, too.

The first actual TUG I can remember is actually in the story section, getting briefly tied to a neighbor's porch support when I was about 6 or 7. My memories are fuzzy, which is reflected in the story, but I do remember it.

For me, it was that I noticed I paid a lot of attention to scenes in TV shows, cartoons, books, etc. where characters were tied up. I had a few experiences with hostage/rescue games as a kid and it helped reinforce the idea to me these types of scenes were exciting. It's still hard for me to pin dow...

I don't ever recall anyone discussing it in that much detail. People make occasional jokes, but that's about it.
