I was always just upfront on platforms like fetlife and tinder. Truthfully tinder proved to help better than fetlife. Made some new friends and had some experiences. My current girlfriend and I met that way as well.

I've always tried to aim on the smaller side for subs. Too large just isn't comfy. But it really does depend on the person and what they like too. Personally, smaller more comfortable fits are better for play, not that I'm the one wearing them. :p

I've always been the dom, and no I don't think I've tied anyone the first time meeting regardless of how long we've talked beforehand. I tend to always be on the side of caution and make sure that trust goes both ways before going on an endeavor like a TUG with someone.
