First, let me say that I am not that far into the chapters to render an expert opinion, but...
I believe I am able to render a qualified opinion of this character, and he is more than amoral.
I don't want to quarrel with you my friend, but I must disagree with your statement about being qualified to answer this poll.
I really was not expecting you (or any other non-reader) to answer this opinion poll.
Last I heard, you'd stopped reading at Chapter 10. Shawn does not make an appearance until Chapter 62 and his role only becomes prominent from Chapters 179-240. So unless you've read up to Chapter 240, you should not be voting on this.
This opinion poll is simply my way of getting the readership's pulse regarding one of the saga's greyer characters; someone who's done some good things and some not so good things. Some of the most common adjectives the readers have used to describe Shawn have been: young, foolish, impressionable, apathetic.
All that to say that although I respect your thoughts and the general wisdom that comes with your experience, you must understand that I cannot include your vote in the final average-score tally. At least, not unless you read B&G and make it to the sixth volume of the saga (which has a heavy focus on the difficult - yet non adversarial - relationship between Shawn and the protagonist).
The fact that your vote will most likely remain an outlier, its inclusion would bring Shawn's score down considerably and paint an inaccurate picture of how he's generally perceived by those who follow the story and know the ins and outs of his personae.
Volobond and myself both had our money placed on a certain average score number, but from this preliminary vote, Shawn seems to be performing better than either of us had expected!
Way too early to tell at this point, but so far Shawn seems to be heading for an average score of 6.7 (somewhere between Ambivalent/Conflicted and Moderate Approval).
