Triple Trouble

#1 – Daphne Blake. I kid you not. That’s her real name. What were her parents thinking when they gave her the same name as a popular cartoon character?

#2 – As fate would have it, she grew up tall, and beautiful and had red hair. Just like the cartoon character.

#3 – As a summer camp counsellor 80% of the kids she worked with knew who the cartoon character was. 60% of them made some sort of funny or suggestive comment to her. About 5% of them, mostly boys, were aware of the fact that Daphne (the cartoon one) got tied up a lot and they wanted to do it to Daphne (the real one).

Co-ed groups of kids would come for two weeks at a time during the months of July and August. This meant that, since this was Daphne’s fourth summer working at the camp, and they were in the last term she had faced sixteen different groups that all had one thing in common. One or more kids wanted to tie her up.

When she taught them to tie knots, they tried very hard to persuade her to let them practice on her. It never happened.

When they wrote skits for talent night several of them featured a damsel in distress named Daphne. They tried very hard to persuade her to play the role. It never happened.

A few of the more aggressive ones tried to set snares for her or ambush her. In spite of their best efforts she managed to avoid their traps. Many dreamed of capturing her. It never happened.

Daphne got very good at sensing when something was not quite right. On Monday, after a class on tying knots, she noticed that when she collected the ropes half a dozen were missing. Did they think she wouldn’t notice? For the rest of the day Daphne was on guard as she went about her duties. Nothing happened.

In the evening there was a twilight swim after supper and then a campfire with singing and story telling. There was no abduction attempt, not even any stories about damsels in distress. At bedtime Daphne entered her cabin cautiously. No one was waiting to pounce on her. She closed the door and locked it.

Tuesday went much the same as Monday and so did Wednesday. By the time Thursday came around a very nervous Daphne was jumping at every little noise anticipating it to be a surprise attack. She had always been on top of the kid’s tricks but this time she had no idea what to expect. After the lights went out and every one was supposed to be in bed Daphne, who was too stressed out to sleep, decided to make the first move.

She crept up to the boy’s cabin to listen in on any plot they might be discussing. All she heard was snoring. Thinking that maybe, this time, she was wrong, she silently started to make her way back to her cabin. Then she heard a giggle. The girls were still up.

Daphne crept up to their cabin and peeked through the window. Some of the girls were in bed but not all of them. Six girls were draped in bed sheets and moaning like ghosts. Two of them held ropes. So that was the plan. Pretending to be ghosts they would haunt Daphne and tie her up like the ghosts on television did to Daphne in the cartoon.

Daphne decided to strike first and scare the hell out of them. She burst into the cabin.

‘What’s going on here?’ she demanded to know. ‘Are you planning to try to tie me up?’

There was a moment of frightened silence and then one trembling voice said ‘We wanted to but then Cookie said that we shouldn’t because we could get into too much trouble. She said that if we wanted to play ghost games, we should tie her up instead.’

The girls stood aside and Daphne could now see Cookie, her favorite camper, tied to a chair with ropes and cleave gagged with a bandanna.

‘Is this true?’ Daphne asked Cookie. Cookie nodded her head, yes. ‘Why?’ asked Daphne.

‘It’s all because of that dumb TV show’ said one of the other girls ‘Cookie’s real name is Velma.’

‘Are we in trouble?’ asked another girl timidly.

Daphne thought about it. For four years she had skilfully avoided being tied up. Now when there really wasn’t any threat there was only one thing she could do.

‘No, you’re not in trouble’ she replied sweetly with a smile and a wink at Velma ‘get another chair for me.’

Interesting idea to have someone named and look very similar to Daphne Blake but not wanting to be tied up or the damsel in distress. I don't remember if you are the one that just leaves their stories on cliffhangers or not, but it would be amazing if you could continue with this idea or characters.
