TomYi, I see you're a proud Canadian. That's the trouble. Canadians are much more likely to travel the world than us Yanks. 2/3rds of Canadians have passports, but only 1/3rd of Americans do. For a lot of Americans the closest they have to an international experience is visiting EPCOT at Walt Disney World in FL. Everybody speaks English and they use "real money".
Might as well get the passport. In the US for adults they are good for ten years at $140. A day's ticket to EPCOT is ca. $125. Without a passport or passport card Americans can't even visit adjacent border towns such as Niagara Falls, ON, Windsor, ON or Tijuana, Mexico.
